Notes from the Great Backyard Bird Count | Hyderabad | February 2025
The morning begins with a hush; it is 10 minutes past sunrise. The air is thick with possibility, the silence punctuated only by the occasional whisper of a hidden life stirring in the underbrush. And then, a note — clear, bright, liquid — splits the quiet, and suddenly it is a concert hall.
The joy of birdwatching begins with the simple act of being present — to witness a world untamed. There is language here, primal and unspoken, written in the tilt of a head, the shudder of tail feathers, the brief, electric pause before flight. A language we only half-understand.
It is why I draw — to create a bridge between observation and thought. To not only understand better, but to also pay homage to our shared existence on this pale blue dot.
